Here's the thing about large-format art - it's bold. It's fabulous. It's powerful. And it's in your children's reach.
We'll start with a meaningful subject or image. I create the composition and draw a few leading lines on the canvas to get the young artists started.
With some artful direction from me (I am an arts educator who delights in teaching young artists), the participating children paint the body of the work. During the 4-6 hour session, I offer professional art instruction and document the experience with photos.
After the session, I can add small touches (as needed or requested - this is completely optional). I then varnish the canvas and prepare it to be cherished and displayed in your home.
I invite you to scroll through the gallery below of recent Art In Residence sessions. The creations are magnificent. The experience is so very rich in content, emotion, and the goodness that only art can deliver.
This will be an heirloom in your family for generations to come.
Interested in having your little arteeests create something stunning for your home? I'd be delighted to assist!
The Art in Residence experience comes in 3 sizes - the Louvre, the Guggenheim & the de Young.
Louvre size: 48x60 inches
Guggenheim size: 36x36 or 36x48 inches
de Young size: 30x30 or 30x40 inches
Yes. Your canvas will be a stretched gallery-wrapped canvas.
That is completely up to you! The gallery wrap allows you to hang the artwork right away.
The Louvre size is $1400
The Guggenheim size is $1200
The de Young size is $1000
Set up, clean up, all art instruction, all art materials (in this unusual time of Covid, every item used will be brand new and yours to keep), finishing and varnishing of painting, hanging mounts, and the photographic images captured during the session.
The standard rate covers 4-6 hours of painting and instruction. Younger artists may prefer a shorter session (or 2 shorter sessions if schedules allow it).
Each group is unique. I have worked with families that prefer an action-packed 4 hour session and families that have little artists begging for more time after 6 hours. Needs, skill level and beyond will be discussed in your advance consultation. I will plan the session with your family's needs in mind.
Great question. The beauty of doing this 'in residence' is that little artists feel comfortable to take a detour and then return to the painting. Those small breaks also allow me to step in and modify the artwork as needed.
No doubt some participants have a longer attention span than others. It all works. The goal is to end the session with a feeling of accomplishment (which I love seeing in the eyes of the artists!), gaining new skills, and creating something together that everyone gets to enjoy.
Though I usually work from my studios in Sonoma, Nashville, New York and Florida, all I need for a new location is enough bookings to make it worth the trip. Email me and we'll talk about it!
The standard rate covers up to 4 participants (not including the instructor).
Of course! You may have more than 4 artists for an additional fee of $100 per additional artist.
The names of all of the participants will be signed on the painting. If artists are old enough to sign their own names, excellent. If not, I will do that for them.
Please email me with your location and requested dates. We'll take it from there.
A $500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking.
